Few contemporary painters have done more to give the American West a distinctly modern visual identity than Logan Maxwell Hagege. One of the most recognizable and sought-after artists working in Western art today, Hagege has built a following among collectors for paintings that bring a sophisticated modernist sensibility to the landscapes, people and enduring imagery of the West. His distinctive approach, which he calls “stylized realism,” combines bold geometric compositions, simplified forms, monumental skies and dramatic light to create works that are immediately identifiable as his own. Trained in Southern California, Hagege draws upon travel and field studies throughout the Southwest, translating those experiences into paintings that feel both timeless and strikingly modern.
His work has received significant institutional recognition and is held in the permanent collections of the Autry Museum of the American West, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Eiteljorg Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, The James Museum and Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.
Hagege’s rise in the market has been mirrored by significant results for his paintings at the Scottsdale Art Auction. The auction house set the world auction record for Hagege in 2019 when it sold his painting Breaking Through The Storm (40 x 60”) for $234,000 against an estimate of $50,000–$75,000. The auction house also achieved the second-highest auction price for Hagege when it sold his painting All the Wild That Remains (42 x 40”) for $187,200, well over the estimate of $60,000–$80,000. Other important sales for Hagege include Gathering (40 x 60”), which sold for $152,000 in 2021, and Pursuit of Happiness (52 x 54”), which sold for $146,250 in 2024. In fact, of the ten highest prices ever paid for work by Hagege at auction, six were achieved at the Scottsdale Art Auction.
