This painting depicts Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Salud (Church of Our Lady of Health) in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The church, built in the 18th century, appeared in several Clark Hulings paintings, including the 1968 work Cloth Vendors–San Miguel de Allende, which offers a wider shot of the church and surrounding streets and plaza. For this work, Hulings turned his attention to the incredible stone facade of the church, which includes depictions of Saint Anne, Saint Joachim, Saint John the Evangelist, the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Conception.
