The Artist
Private collection, California
Richard Schmid believed that almost anyone could paint, regardless of where they entered the art world. As long as an artist was passionate, never stopped learning and continuously progressing forward, there were no limits of where they may go. It was this attitude, and the quality of his paintings, that have made him one of the most endearing figures in contemporary realism, even now five years after his death. He excelled at landscapes and still lifes, and yet his figures, such as Lady in Black, are cherished on another level entirely.
