Glenna Goodacre’s skill as a sculptor could be seen in all her work, but depictions of children occupied a special place in her heart. “During the settling of the West, while adults were waging territorial wars, I would hope there was some peace for children,” she wrote about The Gift in Glenna Goodacre: The First 25 Years. “This sculpture was meant to relate a moment of compassion as a pioneer child shares her doll with a Native American girl. This was one of the first pieces I did in my new studio after the move to Santa Fe in 1984, a real turning point for me.”
