Additional Information

Provenance:
Altermann Galleries & Auctioneers, Santa Fe, NM, 2011

In the early 1950s, after a successful career as an illustrator and traveling the world with her husband, Bettina Steinke arrived in Taos, New Mexico, to find that the town still had that old-world charm to it. Even some of the members of the Taos Society of Artists were still around. More importantly, though, were the Taos people, who immediately became her subjects. Steinke later moved to nearby Santa Fe, where she continued to paint and her husband opened a gallery on Canyon Road. Their contributions in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico are still being recognized today.
