Roy Anderson was voted into the Cowboy Artists Of America in 1989 and remained a member of the group for over twenty-five years. He received the Silver Medal for Oil Painting in 1999 and many other awards while he was an active member. He is known mainly for his paintings depicting members of the Crow, Cheyenne and Apache tribes. He began his career in Chicago and New York where he worked as an illustrator and completed many covers for Time Magazine. He also did a series of postage stamps, most notably on dogs and American horses and in 1984 and 1985 won Stamp of the Year Award.
