California painter Nicholas Firfires, a cowboy himself, was a descendant of vaqueros, and vaquero life became one of the principal subjects of his art. After serving as a combat artist in World War II, Firfires made a living as an illustrator and comic strip creator. After the success of his first solo exhibition, Firfires turned exclusively to easel painting.
