Known for his highly detailed and realistic Western scenes, many of them filled with people in large panoramic images, Russ Vickers was born in Paris, Texas. He served in the Marines in World War II and as a combat artist during the Korean War. Like many G.I.s after the wars, Vickers headed to California, where he was a technical illustrator for the aerospace industry. Vickers would become a full-time artist in Arizona, where he painted action and drama with extreme levels of detail. His work was also featured in the 1970 John Wayne film Chisum.
