Additional Information

Joe Beeler (1931-2006) was a founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America in 1965. Beeler studied at Art Center in Los Angeles before working as an illustrator at the University of Oklahoma Press in Norman. His successful one-man show at the Gilcrease Museum in 1960 launched his fine art career. Beeler is a classical Western artist and his paintings delve into his growing up in the Osage Country of the Missouri-Oklahoma border where he was fascinated with drawing cowboys, Indians and horses. The Ambush is a subject matter that Beeler would return to many times throughout his career.
