Additional Information

RC Gorman was born on the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, Arizona and spent his early years in a hogan with his family. Despite the strength of his cultural heritage and the fact that he drew heavily on it, Gorman disliked the epithet “Indian” when it attached itself to his art. Influenced by Mexican masters like Rivera and Siqueiros, Gorman’s drawings, paintings, and bronzes of native women—his favorite subject—constructed out of long, flowing lines and bright colors make his style and work unmistakable.
