Additional Information

Like many of his contemporaries, Robert Abbett began his career in commercial art, providing illustrations for paperbacks, film posters and advertisements. In 1970, Abbett left the hum of New York for rural Connecticut and heeded the call of the deep woods and rolling waters that abound there. Soon, Abbett left commercial art behind as he embarked on a tremendous career painting fly fishing and, especially, bird hunting scenes, such as Pointer with Bobwhite Quail. You have to hope either that the artist is hunting or that there’s a hunter just off the edge of the canvas. Because this would be a waste of a great covey rise otherwise. The setting is breathtaking, autumnal, at the edge of the woods that run up to the field and barn in the distance. The dog has done its part. If those birds get away, you will likely be the recipient of a look of utter canine disgust.
