Literature:
Dave McGary: American Realism in Bronze, Michael Duty, McGary Studios, Ruidoso, NM, 1997: p. 41, 46, 121.

Part of Dave McGary’s famous Upper Missouri River series of bronzes, Iron That Walks is full of the little details that bring the sculptor’s works to life. From the individual beads in the shirt and bear claws in the necklace to the subtle imperfections on the feathers and the bladed edge on the war club. No detail is superfluous in a McGary bronze. “Like [Charles M.] Russell, he is an artist from outside the culture who has been accepted and
given the privilege of passing on the details of a still-vibrant world,” Michael Duty writes in Dave McGary: American Realism in Bronze. “Works like Touch the Clouds, American Horse and Iron that Walks all serve as links from the past to the present and into the future. They offer the viewer and collector a way of understanding another culture.”
