A child refugee from Germany just prior to the Second World War, Wolf Kahn was sent first to Great Britain and then to New York, where he was reunited with his father. Kahn worked and studied under Stuart Davis and Hans Hoffman but steered away from the strictures of abstractionism, finding his path in color and the natural world. In Northern New Mexico imposes a musical staff of spiky, leafless trees in spring over a Rothko-like tricolor background of sky, hill and newly green grass.
