Jim Reynolds was one of the foremost chroniclers of the contemporary cowboy for over forty years until he passed away in 2010. Reynolds studied at the School of Allied Arts in Los Angeles after serving in World War II. Remaining in Los Angeles after art school, he worked as an illustrator for the aircraft and movie industries. From 1954 to 1967, he worked on over one hundred and fifty films, many of them Westerns. In 1967, he moved to Sedona, Arizona and met Joe Beeler and Charlie Dye and became a member of the Cowboy Artists of America. Reynolds specialized in painting the working cowboy and Boss of the C-S depicts a ranch northwest of Austin, Texas.
