Additional Information

Third generation Taos artist Robert Daughters was inspired to move to New Mexico after seeing an exhibition of Cowboy Artists of America paintings in 1967. Daughters became part of the Taos Six, a group that included Walt Gonske and Rod Goebel. For many years, Daughters and his family lived in Berninghaus’s home. Van Gogh was a formative influence on Daughters and you can see this in Happy Flower, a portrait of a sunflower basking in the light with a fence and dappled trees in the background.
