From the consignor:
“My parents met and became friends with Wilson and Roz when Wilson was still a practicing attorney, probably early 70's. My parents were art and antique dealers in Albuquerque, NM, - Wilson and Roz were customers but became friends. I remember going to several gallery showings of Wilson's as a child.
Joan was always in Wilson's studio: it says the painting was finished in 1970 but from what I remember he was constantly working on it. He did in-depth research on Joan of Arc. Wilson knew the names and could tell you who each of the figures in the painting were. Unfortunately, that was never written down other that his sketches of the piece. My father admired the piece every time he saw it.
Wilson and Roz acquired Wilson's father’s entire household of very exquisite European antique furnishings. All of it needing repair, refurbishing, and upholstering, which was my fathers’ specialty. My father worked on the estate furnishings for about three years, and there was some sort of agreement between my parents and the Hurley's. I know the work on the furniture went towards the purchase of Joan. I know some additional money was also given at the time we got Joan.
I have wonderful memories of Wilson and Roz; they were absolutely wonderful people! He is the one who told my parents I would be left-handed and be a creative.”
